Mick Wallace wants to give personal explanation on tax issues to Dáil
According to a statement this afternoon, the Wexford TD will not be resigning over his tax affairs.

WEXFORD TD MICK Wallace will ask for permission to make a personal explanation in the Dáil on Tuesday afternoon following revelations about his tax affairs in recent days.

In a statement issued this afternoon, Wallace said that he will give notice in writing to the Ceann Comhairle Seán Barrett tomorrow to seek the necessary permissions needed.

He said he wants to clarify his position in relation to his taxation issues, as well as propose how he intends to continue to serve his constituents in Dáil Eireann.

Wallace added that “out of respect” for the Ceann Comhairle, he will not be making any further comment until Tuesday afternoon.

The Independent TD had come under fire this week after admitting that his construction company MJ Wallace – of which he is the sole director – had under-declared its VAT by about €1.4 million.

His colleagues in the Technical Group collectively condemned the Wexford deputy but, according to RTÉ, only two – John Halligan and Seamus Healy - called on him to resign.

It was reported this morning that Wallace had left Ireland to attend the Euro 2012 football championships in Poland for the next two weeks. However, his likely appearance in the Dáil tomorrow and Tuesday refutes those reports.
