IAN BRADY, WHO has been incarcerated for decades for the murder of three children in England, has been rushed to hospital today.
The so-called ‘Moors Murderer’ – who buried the children’s bodies on Saddleworth Moor in northern England in the 1960s – had been moved to Ashworth psychiatric hospital in 1985. He has been on hunger strike there since 1999 and was reported by ITV News this morning to have suffered a seizure.
A statement from Ashworth hospital this morning said that Brady, 74, had been admitted to a general hospital after he became “acutely physically unwell”. He is to undergo tests and will be accompanied in his room “at all times by two nurses from Ashworth Hospital” with two other members of staff from the hospital outside his room throughout his stay. The statement added:
Ian Brady, who has been at the high secure psychiatric hospital since 1985 has been tube-fed since refusing food 12 years ago. He is due to have a public mental health review tribunal next week.
Brady’s partner in the Moors murders, Myra Hindley, died at the age of 60 in 2002.
