Garda sergeants to face disciplinary action following conference walkout
The four sergeants walked out of the AGSI conference on Monday. The AGSI is supporting their decision.
FOUR GARDA SERGEANTS are due to appear before an Assistant Commissioner in Templemore later today, following their walkout during the annual AGSI conference on Monday.
Speaking on RTÉ’s Morning Ireland, Fianna Fáil spokesperson on justice and equality, Niall Collins, said that the gardaí should apologise, but that no disciplinary action should be taken against them.
The association which represents Garda sergeants and inspectors, the AGSI, have defended the actions of the four, with the group’s general secretary, John Redmond, saying that they “understand their protest against Minister Shatter, who has treated our members with great disdain and disrespect”.
The walk-out has been criticised by both the Minister for Justice Alan Shatter and the Garda Commissioner Martin Callinan.
