THE NORTHERN IRELAND G8 Summit kicked off this afternoon with the globe’s most powerful leaders set to lock horns during round table discussions on the burning issues affecting the world today.
But before formal discussions took place, Barack Obama and four of the European G8 leaders took time to have a quick chinwag with Taoiseach Enda Kenny.
Political ties were cast aside as the Taoiseach sat with British Prime Minister David Cameron, German Chancellor Angela Merkel, French President François Hollande and Italian Prime Minister Enrico Letta.
The president of the EU Council, Herman Van Rompuy, and the president of the European Commission, José Manuel Barroso, also took part in the dress down EU/US trade meeting.
