ALMOST 72,000 12-15 year olds have received a Covid vaccine since the programme opened up to that cohort, the HSE has said.
Speaking at the HSE’s weekly briefing today, CEO Paul Reid said 124,000 people in this age group have been registered for a vaccine.
He said the uptake of the vaccine so far has exceeded expectations but urged those who have not yet received a vaccine to come forward.
The briefing heard that public health departments are concerned that unvaccinated healthcare workers may have contributed to the introduction of the virus in certain settings.
“I’m sure that wasn’t their intention,” said Professor Martin Cormican, HSE national lead for health care-associated infection and antimicrobial resistance.
“We have to understand that there is some hesitancy around vaccination and we try to work with colleagues on that, but clearly, we would be a lot more comfortable if all healthcare workers looking after vulnerable people were fully vaccinated.
“We do have a process in place to risk assess people who are not vaccinated to look at the role that they’re in, to look at the risk to them and they risk they might pose to others. And in some cases, people may have to be redeployed at least temporarily, if the risk to them, or the risk to others is too high from being unvaccinated.”
Professor Cormican also said the number of hospital-acquired cases of Covid has started to increase in recent weeks.
There are 244 patients with Covid-19 in hospital today with 54 of those patients in ICU.
52% of patients in hospital with Covid are not fully vaccinated while 45% are fully vaccianted.
62% of Covid patients in ICU are not vaccinated at all, 15% are partially vaccinated and 23% are fully vaccinated.
The HSE said 82% of Covid cases in hospital were either admitted with or are now being treated for it in hospital, while 11% are asymptomatic and not infectious.

You have, since minors were introduced to the schedule, been 100% black and white on this topic, vaccinating kids good not vaccinating kids bad parenting when that simply isn’t the case.other countries have not yet included minors for various reasons most of which are more research is needed, this is conveniently not in your comments. Vaccine hesitancy is real and all possibilities, pros and cons considered. This narrative of “protecting your kids” you are rolling out almost daily is scare mongering in the opposite extreme, many people are opting not to vaccinate their kids until more is known on the side effects…. To protect them.

Other countries have been vaccinating children and the data is sound.
Nphet are always data driven much to the frustrating of many.
If there were even the slightest scientific reason Nphet would not advicse it. The are belt and braces and a roll of string people. They refuse to take chances. That is why we were under strict rules during the lockdowns. They refuse to gamble.

As highlighted in the Dail. New powers have been given to people who can restrict peo peoples freedoms. These are supposed to be temporary measures but they refuse to relinquish it.

What we are waiting for is for them to advise the government to reopen fully, which the government can do without the advice.
After Christmas and the mass outbreaks the government are in nor rush to endanger more people.

One of the problems I see with young cohorts getting vaccinated is that many people have switched off looking at Covid news and are still working off guidelines from a year ago ie young adults/children don’t get very ill from Covid but these people don’t understand that the goal posts have changed because of Delta and that while they the teens might not get ill they can still infect others just like a full adult
@Kevin50: it’s really that people switch off when they get vaccinated and get back to a normal risk take fulfilling life. I said it before but I can’t wait to see what happens when all cohort groups are gotten through.
The HSE certainly have a way with presenting statistics so they are completely meaningless, “The HSE said 82% of Covid cases in hospital were either admitted with or are now being treated for it in hospital” yet it fails to give a breakdown of these two most important statistics separately, so that they sctually mean something.
• How may people were actually admitted to hospital, sick enough with covid to require admission?
• How many people that were sick in hospital for other reasons, then contracted covid in hospital?
Much like when outbreaks of the winter vomiting bug and MRSA are infecting already sick hospital patients in other instances, that didn’t have either of them, when they entered hospital for other reasons.
@David Van-Standen: HPSC reported that in the 2 weeks to last Monday,there were 111 hospital acquired infections. During that time the average number of people in hospital was just over 205 and there were also a total of 236 covid discharges. Many better ways to do the math by digging at more numbers – but it suggests somewhere between 47% and 54% of covid hospital cases are hospital acquired. So say half ….

Not much between the two ears is there? This is not a non tested vaccine. These Vaccines have gone through more stringent trials/tests before being administered to any individual then almost of all other Vaccines put together in the history of Vaccines. It has less and less frequent side effects than most other Vaccines including clots. It is not been tested on kids because it has been tested for kids.
The problem is people like you posting false information on social media, scaremongering resulting the deaths of numerous people from covid. Are you proud of yourself for your part in that?

It’s always good to question things but when someone is spouting blatant lies it’s either brainwashing or ignorance and you’re not going to get around either. People are getting sloppy with the covid maintenance, mask not used no disinfection hands etc.
Thats why it is still spreading.
Anybody who want to go to visit a nursing home or hospital should be fully vaccinated and the waiting period over.
In the US they are saying not vaccinated no longer employed.
