1. #INVESTIGATION Gardaí want to talk to the driver of a ‘dark saloon’ who may have witnessed an assault on Lamb Alley in Dublin on Sunday night. The man who was assaulted remains in a serious condition in hospital.

2. #MARIE FLEMING The State has agreed today to pay most of the legal costs from the late Marie Fleming’s challenge to Ireland’s assisted suicide laws, RTÉ reports. The costs will not be formally drawn up until her estate has been dealt with.

3. #COURTS Mount Carmel Hospital and two obstetricians have apologised over the death of Senan Dodd two days after his birth in 2008, RTÉ reports. The court heard that the obstetricians had ignored or failed to correctly interpret a foetal heart trace showing the baby was in distress.

4. #PRISON President Michael D Higgins has defended his wife Sabina’s visit to imprisoned peace activist Margaretta D’Arcy, saying it was “private and personal” and that the issue of whether or not it was appropriate “doesn’t arise”.

5. #VATICAN The government is to reopen the Vatican embassy – 26 months after closing it to save money. The scaled-back embassy will have one staff member, Tánaiste Eamon Gilmore said.
