7 things that parents with young kids know to be true

Lie-in? What’s a lie-in?

KIDS, EH. THEY’RE cute alright. Fierce cute.

That we can’t deny.

But as all parents of young children quickly come to realise – they change everything.

Really fast.

In ways you can’t even imagine.

So we rounded up seven of the ways your life has changed since having kids.

1. ‘Popping out for something’ is a thing of the past

You won’t believe it, but those days of grabbing your keys, wallet and phone and heading off somewhere are long gone.

Now you have kids you’ll have to plan trips to the end of the street with military precision, never mind venturing any further afield.

You just won’t believe how much stuff that tiny little person needs – pram, bottles, nappy, nappy bag, wipes, change of clothes, more bottles, more wipes. It’s endless.

And just when you think you’ve got everything… you haven’t. Back to the house for you.

2. Privacy is just a word to you now

Remember when you used to go to the bathroom alone and no one knocked on (or opened) the door, demanding to know what you’re doing?

Those days are gone, my friend.

You might be able to trick them for a minute, but those little darlings will always find you.

Always.

3. You’ll know more about Frozen than you would have believed possible

You will become intimately  associated with whatever cartoon character is your child’s favourite film or show.

Accept it. Or, y’know, Let it Go…

Sorry.

4. You’ll hear ‘Why?’ approximately one thousand times a day

Giphy Giphy

Approximately.

Why? Because it’s their favourite word.

Why? Because you have to answer.

Why? Because they want to know.

Why? Because they intrinsically know you will lose the will.

And they will have won.

5. Things will never be quiet again

Giphy Giphy

Remember when you used to have quiet time?

You could sit down and maybe read a book for an hour or two, or just stare into space, content in the knowledge that no one would interrupt you?

Those days are gone.

Long gone.

From the moment they wake up till the moment they sleep – and even when they’re sleeping – you are on call. To help with problems, to answer questions, to feed, to clean, to clothe…

6. You will also be in bed by 9pm…

Giphy Giphy

This is great, you think to yourself, get the kids to bed early, and then the evening’s mine…

Good luck with that.

You’ll be so tired by the time the kids are in bed that you’ll be following them soon after.

It was a nice thought though.

7. You can’t swear anymore

Yeah, we’re sorry.

Well you can, but they’ll hear you, repeat it – always in front of your in-laws – and you’ll never live it down.

There’s going to be a lot of ‘fudge’ and ‘sugar’ in your life from now on.
