Gardaí still searching for baby Maria's mother one year on

It is believed she is currently in foster care.

AS THE ANNIVERSARY of her discovery in a laneway in west Dublin approaches, gardaí say they are still searching for baby Maria’s mother.

The child was found in the industrial estate on the Steelstown Road near Rathcoole on 8 May last year.

She was tended to at the scene by medical staff and gardaí and was taken to Tallaght Hospital. A care order was granted to the child and family agency Tusla for the baby, who was named Maria by those working with her.

It is believed she is currently in foster care.

At a press conference at Clondalkin Garda station last year, Superintendent Brendan Connolly said:

Gardaí are concerned for the welfare of the mother of this child and are appealing for her to seek immediate medical treatment and to contact gardaí who are anxious to reunite her with her baby.

Gardaí this week say that appeal still stands.

Anyone with information regarding the mother and/or the newborn child are urged to contact gardaí at Clondalkin on 01 6667600, the Garda confidential line or any Garda station.

A Tusla spokesperson says “a number of appeals were issued for the mother to come forward by An Garda Siochana with the support and input of Tusla, the most recent of which issued in April 2016.”
