Army experts called in, as viable bomb found in Cork estate

A member of the public found the suspect device and called gardaí.

AN ARMY BOMB disposal team has made safe an explosive device found at a Cork estate earlier this evening.

The bomb squad was deployed after a request from the gardaí. A suspect device had been found outside a home in the Churchfield area of Gurranabraher by a member of the public.

The team arrived on scene at 6.20pm and the bomb was made safe at the scene without the need for a controlled explosion.

Component parts from the device were then brought to a secure military location for further examination. They’ll eventually be handed over to investigating gardaí.

The scene was declared safe at 7.20 pm, according to a Defence Forces spokesperson.
