Violent car-jacking: Woman theatened with hammer by hooded teens

The woman tried to run away, but she was grabbed by the thieves and had her keys taken from her.

POLICE IN BELFAST are appealing for information after a driver had her car stolen by two hooded young men in the city yesterday.

The woman was walking towards her car near the junction of Chichester Road at around 10.40pm last night when the pair, described as being around 19, ran towards her and demanded she hand over her keys.

One of them was brandishing a hammer, she later told the PSNI.

The woman tried to run away, but she was grabbed by the car thieves and had her keys taken from her.

They then drove off.

“I would appeal to anyone who may have witnessed this incident or who has any information to contact Detectives at Tennent Street on the non-emergency number 101,” Detective Constable Conor Sweeney said in a statement.

“If someone would prefer to provide information without giving their details they can contact the independent charity Crimestoppers and speak to them anonymously on 0800 555 111.”

The woman wasn’t injured in the incident but was left badly shaken.
