INCHICORE SAW THE evacuation of homes in the Turvey St area today as the Defence Forces were called in to deal with a viable explosive device.
An Army Bomb Disposal Team made safe the viable Improvised Explosive Device (IED) in Inchicore, Dublin this afternoon.
The Defence Forces team was deployed to Turvey Avenue, Inchicore following a request from the gardaĆ. The area in question had been cordoned off by the gardaĆ and an evacuation had taken place, which saw local residents brought to a safe location.
The team arrived on scene at 3.10pm and examined the device, which was located in a green area near private residences.
The viable device was made safe in situ by means of a controlled explosion, said the Defence Forces. The scene was declared safe at 4.05pm.
The remains of the device have since been removed to a secure military location for further examination. When that is completed, they will be handed over to the gardaĆ to assist with their investigations.
