Search carried out after driver fled hit and run involving an ambulance

There were two paramedics and one patient on board the ambulance at the time.

AN EXTENSIVE SEARCH was carried out by gardaí after the driver of a car fled a hit and run involving an ambulance in Drogheda this afternoon.

Gardaí were called to the collision at the junction of the Bridge of Peace and Rathmullan Road at around 3.25pm.

A red/wine coloured car collided with an ambulance and the driver of the car immediately fled the scene on foot.

He ran in the direction of Ballsgrove via the pedestrian entrance to the estate from the monument at the Ballsgrove dual carriageway.

There were two paramedics and one patient on board the ambulance at the time.

Two further ambulances attended the scene and treated both paramedics and the patient who were in the ambulance involved in the collision.

All three were removed to Our Lady of Lourdes Hospital for treatment and their injuries are not believed to be life threatening.

The ambulance and the offending vehicle have been removed for a technical and forensic examination.

Gardaí are appealing for witnesses to the collision or anyone with any information to contact Drogheda Garda station on 041 9874200.
