GARDAÍ ARE SEARCHING for two men that were seen entering a manhole on Ship Street Little in Dublin last night.

A garda spokesperson told TheJournal.ie that gardaí were informed about the men at 10pm last night.

The area has now been sealed off and a search is on for the men. Ship Street Little is in the Dublin Castle area.

RTÉ radio reports that the men used a ladder to enter the manhole.

Gardaí are said to be awaiting the arrival of a garda sub aqua unit to carry out a search of the underground area linked to the manhole.

There has been no sign of the men so far but it is not known if they left the underground tunnel shortly after entering it or if they are still underground.

The incident was described by gardaí as an unusual one.

It is believed gardaí have contacted the local authority to find out the details of the underground area accessible via this manhole.

Here is a glimpse into what lies beyond the manhole cover on Ship Street Little, as seen on the History Channel. (Skip to 3 minutes 51 seconds.) Thanks to Nick Murnane for the tip.
