HMV staff in Limerick stage sit-in over wages

The staff are currently in negotiations with representatives from Deloitte Ireland, the company which was earlier named as the receiver to HMV Ireland.

STAFF IN THE HMV shop in the Crescent Shopping Centre in Limerick are currently staging a sit-in protest over what they are saying is a failure to pay them for time already worked as well as redundancy.

A member of staff that is currently part of the sit-in told TheJournal.ie that some staff have worked at the shop for upwards of 10 years.

Staff are currently in negotiations with representatives from Deloitte Ireland, the company which was earlier named as the receiver to HMV Ireland.

“At the moment we are in talks with Deloitte and we are hoping that something will be resolved,” the staff member said, before adding: “This doesn’t just affect ourselves but all the employees of HMV”.

Jan O’Sullivan, the Labour TD for Limerick City and Minister for Housing, earlier said that she would call to the shop in order to “show my solidarity with them.”

She then posted the following message on her Facebook page, which read:

HMV workers in Limerick are tonight having a sit in following the closure of the two stores in the city. They have been left in doubt as to whether or not they will receive wages due to them. I hope we can all show solidarity with their plight.
