Irish company wins Cannes Lion for ISPCC ad

Richie Smyth of Dublin based Blinder Productions picked up a bronze for Director’s craft at the awards, which are seen as the Oscars of the advertising industry.

AN IRISH PRODUCTION company making TV commercials has won a Cannes Lion award for direction.

Richie Smyth of Dublin based Blinder Productions picked up a bronze for Director’s craft at the annual awards, which are regarded as the ‘Oscars’ of the advertising industry.

The award was given for directing for the ISPCC film, ‘I can’t wait’.  The harrowing video shows a young boy being repeatedly hit by an adult.

It is the first time an Irish company or director has featured in the category.

“To win a Cannes Lion is an exceptional achievement” said Blinder Managing Director, Michael Duffy. “We are delighted for Richie and very pleased to have done such a strong piece of work for ISPCC.”

Blinder is Ireland’s most awarded TV commercials production company. Since it was founded in 2005, the company has won more awards for director’s craft than any other Irish production company.
