Kidnap

MCGeever appeared in court in Roscommon today to face charges in relation to his alleged kidnapping.

PROPERTY DEVELOPER KEVIN McGeever has appeared in court charged with wasting garda time and making false statements in relation to his alleged kidnapping.

The 68-year-old was brought to Strokestown District Court in Roscommon today wearing dark sun glasses, a striped shirt, a black leather jacket and dark trousers. The vague outline of letters could be seen etched onto McGeever’s forehead; he had said that his abductors had carved the word ‘thief’ onto his head with a penknife during his kidnapping.

Gardaí in Galway have been investigating the alleged false imprisonment of McGeever for more than six months.

The businessman was reported missing by his partner in May 2012 and was found in a dishevelled state by passers-by on a Leitrim road in January of this year. McGeever said that he had been abducted at gunpoint and held hostage by unknown kidnappers.

RTE News reports that McGeever was remanded in custody by the presiding judge today.

The businessman was arrested in Clontarf in Dublin yesterday afternoon and taken to Gort Garda Station in Galway last night as part of an ongoing investigation into his case.
