Mad Men writers giving Irish masterclass

Scriptwriters being called to develop ideas for TV shows under eye of Cosby Show and Boston Legal veterans.

TWO OF THE main scriptwriters for hit television show Mad Men are to hold a masterclass in Dublin this month.

Lisa Albert has written and produced on the critically-acclaimed Mad Men series, set in a Manhattan advertising agency in the 1960s, since it began in 2007. Janet Leahy is working as a consulting producer on Mad Men’s fifth season. Both are coming to Ireland to host a course from 21 to 23 September. Participants in the course will get to develop their idea for a television series and then return to have their work critiqued and worked on again on 25 and 26 September.

Albert’s TV credits include Murphy Brown, Major Dad, Hannah Montana, The Cosby Show, Suddenly Susan and Living Single while Leahy has worked on Cheers, The Cosby Show, Roseanne, Grace Under Fire, Love and War, the Gilmore Girls and Boston Legal.

The masterclass course is being run by FÁS and Screen Training Ireland but sorry, budding screenwriters, applications for the €250 course closed on 29 August.

Will the course result in someone producing an Irish Mad Men-esque show? We hope so if it breeds a character and cracker lines like those of Mad Men’s Roger Sterling:
