The attack took place in 1994 in Newry.

POLICE IN NORTHERN Ireland investigating the attempted murder and serious sexual assault of an eight-year-old girl in Newry in 1994 have released an image of a person they wish to identify.

Fresh appeal

The girl was playing with a friend close to Barcroft Community Centre on 10 June 1994 when she was approached by an unknown male aged in his late teens or early twenties.

He separated her from her friend and took her to an area of woodland within Daisy Hill Nursery where he assaulted her.

Detectives from Serious Crime Branch have launched a fresh appeal for information and are appealing to anyone who has information in relation to this attack, no matter how insignificant it may seem, to contact detectives on 028 38366274.

If you prefer to provide information wthout giving your details you can contact the independent Crimestoppers charity anonymously on 0800 555 111.
