THE TEMPLE BAR building that houses a controversial McDonald’s restaurant is up for sale under a guide price of €6.25 million.
The corner property in Dublin’s famous entertainment district has three storeys and a basement and stretches to a total of 815 sq. metres.
It’s situated on Fownes Street, looks out over Temple Bar Square and is adjacent to a number of pubs and restaurants.
McDonald’s moved into the building in April 2013 on a 20-year lease with an annual rent of €350,000 per year.
There is a break option after 10 years of the lease meaning that McDonald’s will be a tenant for at least another seven years.
The sale of the building is being handled by estate agents Savills who say that the restaurant is an “essential part” of McDonald’s operation in Ireland.
The selection of the location for the McDonald’s restaurant provoked some controversy in 2011 when some local traders objected to it. Permission was refused at first but was subsequently granted and the restaurant opened in 2013.
The restaurant is one of 83 outlets McDonald’s has across the Republic of Ireland with Savills saying that their total annual turnover is €80 million.
