As unpopular as this will be, I don’t believe that Cowen wants to be there anymore then some people writing here. In his defence he has done what we alI wish Bertie would do and he has kept an extremely low profile since leaving office.

I simply think, as is the norm for former taoiseachs he is simply there to show his respect to our new president. I think it would of been easier and more favourable for him to give a copout excuse.
