WHEN YOU THINK of a forest cabin, you probably picture cramped spaces, with no hot water or heating, right? Think again.
This is the gorgeous living space of the lakeside cabin that was named RTÉ’s Home of the Year in the show’s finale last night.
The luxury property is home to interior designer Egon Walesch and management consultant Richard Goodwin, who split their time between London and Ireland.
Walesch carried out significant renovation work on the cabin after inheriting it from his father in 2010.
He wanted to preserve his parents’ memory and the time they had spent together there, while creating a modern, colourful, country-styled home that reflects its setting.
Between 2013 and 2014, Walesch and Goodwin knocked down the internal walls and opened up the ceilings to create an open plan space with sliding glass doors opening to outdoor decking.
Their home saw off competition from 21 other properties, impressing judges with its clever design, individuality and functionality.
