A WOMAN WAS injured after being struck by a DART train last night.

A spokesperson from Irish Rail said that just before 8pm last night a northbound DART struck and injured a woman who was on the track at Dun Laoghaire station.

The emergency services were called and were able to free the woman from under the train by 8.40pm. The woman was taken by ambulance to hospital. The emergency services investigated the scene up until 10pm last night.

The Irish Independent reports that the woman lost her hands in the incident, however this could not be confirmed by the emergency services or Irish Rail, who are not commenting on any injuries the woman may have suffered.

There was severe disruption to the DART station, and up until 9pm the northbound line was closed between Lansdowne Road and Bray. Service has since been restored.

I hope the poor woman gets the help that is needed and her family and friends have the support to help her through this as best they can. I’m sure the train driver must be devastated and my admiration to the rescue teams who do a difficult job.

  • sad story

Hi there, can people please not speculate on the reasons why this incident occurred? I’ve had to delete a number of comments already. As you can appreciate, this is a story that needs to be dealt with sensitively.
    Thanks in advance

I’ve no idea what was posted ealier but reading the censored comments now makes no sence,
Can I request that the Journal reviews its censorship of comments, as readers comments are just that reader comments and 95% of them are just someones opinion.
The press has always sought for freedom of the press. this is my plead for freedom of the people.

    • If you don’t want people to give there opinion about this sort of news then I don’t think u should be posting them…. Because you are just giving nosy people something to talk about and when people give their opinion u just delete it if it’s not what u want to hear

  • very sad. she will be surrounded by caring professionals striving to help her. hopefully it could be a turning point.

  • It’s also possible that she fell or was pushed. It happens on the tube in London from time to time but in any case we don’t know the facts and speculation won’t help anyone.

  • Press freedom comes with responsibilities. Stories like this tend to attract speculation which can hurt those involved.

This isn’t the right page to debate this on so I will keep it very brief as it’s unrelated to this news item.
All stories impact someone and comments are opinions of an individual. Otherwise it would be either book of condolences under an inappropriate news article or a page of sympathy. Censorship isn’t the way forward. The internet and the boom of social networks such as twitter and facebook are purely because they are free from censorship be it local or global.

Maybe the journal could do a follow up item on censorship that would allow for more open discussion

  • Aine, as a depression sufferer who has benefitted hugely from medication, I would have to disagree. Meds only treat the symptoms and not the cause, you are right about that. Much like paracetemol might relieve headache symptoms but don’t address the cause. A good doctor will only prescribe meds if they know you are also attacking the source of depression via therapy. They must go hand in hand. But to dismiss meds altogether would be a mistake in my opinion.

    • Aaaand aine’s comment seems to have disappeared so now im talking to myself!

    • Seeing as I am the Aine in question could the Journal possibly remove this comment as it is now out of context? Paracetemol used to relieve headaches is not the same as “anti-depressant” medication. I have never had my health and life severely damaged by pain killers. The doctors that help you attack the source of problems are hard to find. And I never dismissed meds altogether.

  • This is so sad God it must be hard for the Train Driver te Emergency Services and All witnesses to the accident Please God This lady will make a god recovery Prayers for all

  • No idea but I can guess. Simply not possible to have staff all along the line
