1. #MICK WALLACE: The independent TD was arrested by gardaí over the non-payment of a €2,000 fine for entering a restricted area at Shannon Airport in 2014. He has since been released. Deputy Clare Daly is expected to be arrested over the same issue.

2. #ALCOHOL PRICING: Most cans of beer are set to have a minimum price of €2 after new rules are brought in by the government.

3. #FLOODING: Members of the Defence Forces have been drafted in to assist with flood defence efforts in counties Clare, Limerick, Galway and Athlone town.

4. #TRUMP: Enda Kenny has said that comments by Donald Trump that all Muslims should be banned from entering the United States are “not acceptable”.

5. #PERSON OF THE YEAR: Time has named its 2015 Person of the Year and – for the first time since 1986 – a woman has taken the title.
