1. #JAILED Businessman Breifne O’Brien was jailed for seven years for theft and deception. He ran a Ponzi scheme which cost his victims millions of euro, and used stolen cash to pay for an extension and a car.

2. #BUDGET 2015 Sinn Féin has released its Budget proposals for 2015, as did the Anti-Austerity Alliance. While Sinn Féin wants to abolish water charges, the AAA wants to tax millionaires.

3. #EBOLA The first US Ebola patient, Thomas Eric Duncan, has died. The hospital where he was treated said that he “fought courageously in this battle”.

4. #HINKLEY POINT The EU has approved the building of a nuclear plant in Somerset, 240km from Ireland. The plant will produce 7% of the UK’s energy.

5.  #STUDENTS Thousands of students marched on Leinster House to demand the protection of student supports and maintenance grant levels. USI president Laura Harmon will meet Education Minister Jan O’Sullivan tomorrow.
