all I’m saying is it’s either a random maniac walking around at 6am with some acid looking for the first person he saw, or it was a deliberate attack… ok as I write this it occurs to me that it was hardly random..

Education would help a great deal. There should be a new class added to schools called common sense. Basically teaching the rights and wrongs of life. Start off basic regarding littering, stealing, stuff like that. This sort of antisocialism starts in younger years.

Wonder if u are being sarcastic with that comment as sentencing in this country is rediculously short term. The culprit prob will get only 3 mnts but deserves at least 5 years no parole. That’s grievous bodily harm. No chance for ppl when a coward like this is out loose.

And crime is steadily on the increase if you look at a graph from the 60s up to now. You will see a line going upwards. It’s more dangerous out there now than it ever was.
Also you have to take into account an huge amount of crimes are now left unreported because they are becoming more common all the time. A lot of burglaries are not reported. Random acts of violence too and such as the likes.

My comment was meant as a reply to Dave’s one saying Ireland is getting worse or something along those lines. It’s tiresome because there always seems to be people spreading fear posting comments such as your own. Less than half the homicide offences committed in 2011 compared with 2005. I’m aware that statistics can often be misleading but this one speaks for itself. The reduction in crime rates is happening in first world countries across the globe you might be interested to know.

John my friend sadly it is.. The amount of violence unreported these days is unprecedented … Fighting is a nightly occurrence in small towns and at the weekends I even don’t feel comfortable going out, I was in a pub just before Christmas, I accident bumped into this young fella who had about six shots in his hand, two spilt, I apologized and before I could get the words ” I will get ya a couple more” he says ” ya ph****g wan**#. Blah blah blah, was gonna drop the rest to have a go.. I just stood back, looked at him for a split second and he got the message. to be honest I was shocked at the split second fury more than him wanting to have a go….

That’s some some stong evidence you present there. Maybe you’re right. I also wish I possessed your death glare which stopped this shot holding mad man, who is representative of modern Ireland, from murdering you, or possibly worse on the spot.

@ John. One correction to your post to make it accurate is to insert the word ‘reported’ before ‘crime’. It is a statistical fact that as the violent crime increases in a country over a certain threshold, the public stop reporting it for lack if confidence anything will result in it. Now THAT’S something to feel tiresome over.

@ Simon. Perhaps I should have written ‘serious violent crime’. I don’t think we’ve gotten to the stage in Ireland where serious violent crime (with the exception of rape) often goes unreported, to such a stage that there is a significant statistical anomaly. Certainly not as regards homicide offences. I’d certainly agree with you about the importance of reporting crime and that the public has faith in the justice system.

Not what I’m getting at. If it happened there it would automatically be a comment on the culture, but nobody would ever come to that conclusion when it happens here.

It may be a culture thing, but not European culture, certainly not Irish.

What rubbish , this is a disgusting attack nothing to do with Ireland at all. I left for London nearly three years ago. And I know of at least incidents like this that have happened here. Its a vile act by vile people, which sadly, appears to be happening with increased regularity.

Looks like my comment went over your heads… I miss the Ireland I grew up in and despise what it’s turning into.. And please give up on that old rhetoric of ” media hype” I take what the media writes and televises with a pinch of salt.. This is coming from a guy who stood on the doors in Dublin for 12 years, who did security all over Ireland and abroad.. The underbelly of Irish society is a cesspit of violence.. Drink and drug endured.

Get a grip mate Munich probably is a lovely place but bad things happen everywhere. Don’t use a bad incident that happens over here just as an opportunity show how smug you are! I’ve met plenty of Germans they are no way near as welcoming and friendly as irish People! Fact
