Not everyone is enlightened. When I lived in the US, we Americans were generally amazed at how knowledgeable Europeans were about World politics including that of the US. However, reading some of the cheeky, and some cases idiotic comments that have been against President Obama. .. I now know that ignorance and stupidity is world wide, with maybe a larger percentage relative to population living in Ireland. Please note: My statement is based on comments reflected here on Journal.ie.

Saying that about the Irish people just because of the comments here on the journal is in itself idiotic.
We have an opinion on American politics because we see do much on it on our news channels. Therefore, based on that news we make our own assumptions. Therefore the majority of the Irish people are aware that the president of America is merely a figurehead for the people above him.

In the states we have African-Americans carying the weight of years of slavery and Jim Crow Laws. Anglo-Americans carrying the weight because equality is threating their perceived freedoms and rights. The only time in the last fifty years anything RESEMBLING liberal economics was during Clinton’s administration and we had a record surplus. Every other part of the last fifty years (including Obamas first term) our economics have been HIGHLY conservative….
