Body found in Cork had been assaulted before death

Gardaí have issued an appeal for public assistance in identifying the man, who is thought to have been in his 60s.

GARDAÍ IN CORK have said that examinations on a body of a man found in apartments in the city yesterday evening have determined that he had been assaulted before his death.

The man’s body was found in apartments on Northgate Street at around 5:30pm yesterday evening.

A post-mortem has been carried out on the remains and while Gardaí are not disclosing the results of that post-mortem, they have said that they believe the man had been “subject to an assault prior to his death”.

They have now issued an appeal for public assistance in identifying the man, who is thought to have been in his 60s.

The man is described as being of slight build and around 5’5″’ to 5’6″. He had white-grey hair and a moustache.

He was wearing a beige fleece, a black t- shirt and beige trousers when he was found.

Anyone who can assist the Gardaí in identifying the man is asked to contact an incident room in Bridewell at (021) 4943330, the Garda Confidential line at 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

Investigators are also keen to speak to anyone who may have seen a man, fitting the description of the deceased, in the North Main Street/Bachelors Quay or City Garden Apartments between Saturday night and Monday afternoon at 5:30pm.
