Glenroe actress Eileen Colgan passes away

She was best known for her roles as Esther Roche in Fair City and Mynah in Glenroe.

IRISH ACTRESS EILEEN Colgan, best known for her roles as Esther Roche in Fair City and Mynah in Glenroe, has passed away.

She began her career in Dublin in theatre, before moving to London and working in radio and television.

Her performance in Hatchet won her Best Television Performance by an Actress at the Jacobs Award.

Head of Drama with RTÉ Jane Gogan paid tribute to the actress today:

“Eileen was a great professional and will be sadly missed by those of us who were fortunate enough to have had the opportunity to know her and work with her. As an actress in many of RTÉ’s dramas over the years she brought a great range to her performance.”
She could be funny, poignant, tragic in the wide variety of roles she played. In the highly demanding world of Fair City Eileen was an inspiration to those she worked with. She will be greatly missed by cast and crew.

“Eileen Colgan had a long and successful career at the Abbey Theatre,”Fiach MacConghail, Director the theatre said.

“Among her memorable performances were as Molly Bloom in Ulysses in Nighttown and as Mrs. Cafferty in Mary Makebelieve. She was a wonderful actress who had a particular gift for mischief which she played brilliantly.”

She is survived by four children Katy, Cathal, Ben and Clara and her eight grandchildren.
