Hey John… Thanks for your comment. However. .. No disrespect to you… But that’s not good enough. I have lived in several large American and European cities that also have commuters and public transit. Oddly… They’re able to to be on time within 5 minutes.

As I understand. .. There is a formula that can be used to set time arrival and departure times. The formula includes… The number of cummuters using the the roads, the number of intersections on the5he route, the time of day, the number of buses on the route, the weather, number of stops on the route, the day of tbe week and time of year and the calculations from the past few years added in as a variable. Putting this all together spits out the arrival and departure times. Civil engineers with aid of mathamatians can figure this out easily. So… the question is… Why isn’t our city civil engineers doing their job?

I don’t dispute what you’re saying, but I think a different culture exists here when it comes to commuting. Keep in mind I am speaking in broadly general terms.

Allot of people will disagree, but then people only really ever remember negative experiences. I find, for example if I am running late and a bus pulls away from a stop, or a DART driver sees me running over the bridge, they will normally wait the 30 or so seconds for me to arrive. This is NOT always the case, allot of them will do their job properly and leave me wait for the next one rather than make everyone else wait on me. But then the usual keyboard warriors come out of the woodwork and exclaim how rude and selfish the bus driver is etc. Now if the driver repeats this action at only half of the stops, this will be maybe five to ten minutes total.

As for the big question, I wouldn’t even venture a guess as to why our civil engineers aren’t doing their jobs. It is pretty incredible in 2013 they still haven’t worked this out!

Having lived in Boston and Stockholm, I can see exactly the comparison you are drawing, and honestly there is none. The transport there is robotic in its efficiency and something that I hope Dublin aspires to.

Although, to benchmark against where we where as a city, say 10 years ago, we have come a long way. I think Dublin Bus, Irish Rail and Vieola are doing a really good job (not perfect again I know) without much outside support in terms of passenger services, support and information.

Hey John! We are on the same page on this one… Except the point were Ireland was and where we are today. Personally I don’t agree with using such a comparison. I feel it is used as an excuse to accept the unaccountable.

The sooner we stop accepting the unacceptable, the faster the acceptable will become a thing a reality.
