PAICHE ONYEMAECHI

This mother of two was found murdered in Kilkenny 11 years ago and nobody has ever been charged

A new appeal has been made today.

PAICHE ONYEMAECHI (NEE Unyolo) was a 25 year old married mother of two young boys.

She had come to Ireland in 1999 and moved to Waterford in May 2001. She was reported missing at Waterford Garda Station on 10 July 2004.

Her body was discovered in a field near Brenar Bridge, Piltown, Co. Kilkenny 13 days later. Nobody has ever been charged with her murder.

Today, a new appeal has been launched to help find her killer.

Paiche’s body was located roughly two miles north of Piltown, in the townland of Sandpits, on the road to Templeorum. The bridge is located between Sandpits Crossroads and Jamestown Cross.

Speaking today, Detective Superintendent Michael Hennebry of Kilkenny Garda Station said:

We are appealing for witnesses or anyone with information to come forward to help us. We would like to speak to anyone who feels they have information relevant to this case, particularly those in the African community living in Waterford at the time, and also to the wider African Community living in Ireland. We are especially interested in speaking to the person who sent an anonymous letter to Gardaí which contained information on the culprits in 2004.

“With the passage of time people may be more inclined to share information they have in their possession.

“Even the smallest piece of information, which may seem insignificant, might help with the investigation. Members of the public can contact us at them at Thomastown Garda Station on 056 7754150 or any Garda Station.

“As an alternative, anybody with information can call Crimestoppers on 1800 25 00 25. Calls to Crimestoppers are anonymous. Callers do not need to leave their name or address.”
