A NEW SURVEY has shown how many seats Fine Gael could be set to gain in a general election depending on who the party’s leader is when voters go to the polls.

A new Ireland Thinks/Irish Daily Mail survey published this morning found that 36% of people would vote for Fine Gael in an election if Leo Varadkar was the leader (and as a result going for Taoiseach).

This would result in Fine Gael winning 13 extra seats than they currently have.

This compares to 31% (+5 seats) for Simon Coveney and 29% (+2 seats) for Frances Fitzgerald, Varadkar’s two main rivals for the leadership when Enda Kenny steps down.

Just 28% of people said they would vote for Fine Gael if Enda Kenny was still in charge when a general election was called.

So, today we’re asking: Who would you like to see as the next leader of Fine Gael?
