Man struck by car and killed in early morning crash

The man died at the scene. The driver was uninjured.

A MAN IN his 40s has died after being hit by a car in the townland of Gooig near Castleconnell on the Limerick-Tipperary border early this morning.

It happened near Daly’s Cross on the R445 around 6.15am.

According to gardaí, the pedestrian was struck by a car and died at the scene. The driver of the car was uninjured.

The man’s body has since been removed to University Hospital Limerick where a post-mortem will take place.

A section of the road where the crash happened has been sealed off as forensic tests get under way.

Gardaí are appealing for anyone who may have been in the vicinity of Daly’s Cross between 6am and 6.30am this morning to contact them at Henry Street Garda Station on 061 212 400 or to call the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.
