GOOD EVENING

The 5 at 5 They did it differently back then.

SOME THINGS ARE definitely best left back in the 1980s – blue eyeshadow, the mullet, a number of TV shows and let’s throw in legwarmers too for good measure.

However, there are also some things that should make a comeback: number one being cars. Much like the hairstyles of the time, the cars from the 1980s were over-styled and over the top.

We’ve rounded up some of the most interesting cars from the 1980s, from the dream car to the (slightly more) affordable.

Check out this uber-cool Land Cruiser BJ42 LX Limited Edition in its original frame with three wipers. This car is fast gaining cult status and now is your chance to own one – this one looks particularly fetching with its mellow yellow coat and zebra-print interior. Sounds like the wardrobe of  Poison.

Let’s face it, the Ford Capri was one of the coolest cars of the eighties and not just because it was in The Professionals. It looks great, has sturdy mechanicals based on the MkII Cortina and it is quick with rear-wheel drive which makes for really good handling and driving fun. It is “the car you always promised yourself”.

The SL is a beautiful two-seat roadster that dates back to the 1960s. This recently resprayed convertible 280SL model is powered by a 2.8-litre petrol engine mated to an automatic gearbox. It has a lovely interior with a mixture of leather, cloth and wood.

With its movie star good looks this car was the star of many 1980s screen classics.

This is a creative interpretation of a Munich classic. Prices for the iconic E30 M3 are reaching stratospheric levels, while convertible versions are even rarer.

This almost-finished project car, based on a 325, is about to get cheaper to run thanks to its age – but it requires some further assembly. Much like the 80s it isn’t to all tastes but you can’t deny it’s distinctive.

Well, it doesn’t get more eighties-looking than this wedge of a car. This two-door, two-plus-two coupe was built by Porsche for Volkswagen but VW decided they didn’t want it so Porsche went ahead and made it its entry-level sports car. White blazer with rolled-up sleeves is mandatory when behind the wheel of this baby.
