WE’RE COMING UP to the one-year anniversary of the first major march against water charges in Dublin. On 11 October last year, almost 100,000 people turned out in the capital to voice their opposition to the charging regime.
There have been more well-attended marches since, but the latest major one drew a crowd only a fraction the size of last October’s.
Many activists have claimed this isn’t an indication that the movement is flagging, and said that it’s the campaign of non-payment that will bring Irish Water down.
But after the government’s climb-down on charges last November, has the issue gone off the radar for voters? Or will it still be THE issue that decides the next general election?
