Amazon lets users fill up their shopping carts via Twitter hashtags

By using the hashtag #AmazonCart, Twitter users can add items they wish to purchase later to their Amazon shopping cart.

AMAZON HAS STRUCK a partnership with Twitter which allows its users to shop and pick items for purchase using hashtags.

The new service will allow Twitter users to link their accounts to their Amazon account, and add items to their shopping cart via tweets.

They can do this by responding to any tweet with an Amazon product link using the hashtag #AmazonCart or #AmazonBasket in the UK. Users will still be required to visit Amazon to pay and complete the purchase.

Since most content on the site is public, using this method will mean that anyone who looks through your replies, timeline or conversations will be able to see what you will be buying.

Twitter ran similar partnership with American Express and Starbucks which allowed users to purchase select items and exchange Starbucks gift cards on the platform respectively.

Twitter has been rumoured to be heading into the eCommerce space for a number of months. Back in February, screenshots of a new eCommerce product, Twitter Commerce, were leaked although the company has yet to officially announce it.

Last week, Twitter announced it made a net loss of $132m (€94m) for the first quarter of 2014. The number of active users on the service reached 255 million, but its slow growth meant its share price drop.
