IN GENERAL, SMARTPHONES are well known for having less than stellar battery life, which is why so many companies offer battery packs as a way of getting around this.

In the case of the iPhone, it’s mainly been third-party companies that offer battery packs chargers and cases, but Apple has decided to release its own battery case.

The case, which is designed for the iPhone 6 and 6s, costs €119 and is able to provide up to 25 hours of talk time or an extra 18 hours of internet use on a 4G connection, and up to 20 hours of video playback.

Unlike similar battery cases, it’s charged with a lightning cable, meaning you don’t have to carry around extra cables. It also means that both can be charged at the same time.

The case is made with silicone, but the battery sits in the centre of the case, making it a little bulkier and longer than normal.

What makes it different to other third-party battery cases, according to Apple, is an intelligent battery status.

When it’s in use, it’s displayed on your iPhone’s lock screen and in the notification centre so you know how much battery life both the case and your iPhone have left.

Apple has taken other measures to ensure battery life would last as long as possible. For the update to iOS 9, it brought in a low power mode for when your battery is down to 20% or you switch it on manually.

It also brought in an overview of app battery usage, showing how much an app used both onscreen and in the background.
