The Internet is stopping the next great novel from being written

Lots of writers in a survey said they have used funny animal views to help them get through a creative block…

A SURVEY OF 1,000 writers in the UK has found that the internet is the most likely distraction from working on their novel.

The survey, undertaken for the Stop Procrastinating app, found sex, dating sites, tiredness, chocolate and their partner offering them tea or alcohol were all common distractions. However emails, social media and the internet in general were all the biggest offenders.

59% of UK writers claimed to have turned to browsing the internet for inspiration only to be lose hours reading articles or watching videos. Rather than looking for inspiration in one of the greats, one fifth of those who were distracted from writing by the internet said they had watched a funny animal video at least once to help them get through a creative block.

Real life animals are not a good kind of distraction, according to respondents, with some saying their dogs had pulled the lead from the computer in the middle of crafting the perfect sentence. Bad dogs.

Today marks the beginning of Nanowrim, an annual event which involved hundreds of writers trying to write 50,000 words of their novel over the month.
