Minister announces funding for transport projects
The Minister for Transport Leo Varadkar claims that the funding committed from his department to the government’s jobs initiative has the potential to create around 1,000 jobs in Ireland.
THE MINISTER FOR Transport has today announced details of €5 million worth of funding for transport projects across the country.
Leo Varadkar said that 25 sustainable transport projects will receive a total of €5 million under the jobs initiative for projects that include road improvements, pedestrian crossings, cycle routes, footpaths, and pedestrianisation projects.
Thirty per cent of the money will be spent on the restoration of road surfaces on the Swords Road bus corridor in Dublin with €1 million allocated to improve pedestrian access at rural schools in Kildare and nine locations in Dublin City.
The funding is part of the €75 million the Department of Transport has contributed towards the government’s jobs initiative which the minister claimed today has the potential to create around 1,000 jobs.
The government has previously been accused by the opposition of ”punching in the dark” and of not having any idea about how much employments its jobs initiative would create.
