Quinn Healthcare announces name change

The company is abandoning the name of Seán Quinn, its bankrupt former owner whose finances have been the subject of controversy.

INSURANCE COMPANY QUINN Healthcare has announced that it will officially change its name later this month.

The company will be rebranded as Laya Healthcare, a name which it said represented its “Looking After You Always” promise to customers.

The move means the insurance giant is abandoning the name of its bankrupt former owner Seán Quinn, whose finances have been the subject of controversy and who is currently facing legal action from the former Anglo Irish Bank.

The Quinn Group bought out health insurer Bupa Ireland in 2007 to form Quinn Healthcare.

In a statement today, the company – which now has no operational involvement with the former tycoon – said the name change would have no impact on insurance customers. The statement said:

The company is currently in the process of transitioning to the new brand which is a very exciting time for all the team and its more than 450,000 members. [But] it’s very much business as usual. Quinn Healthcare continues to sell and renew policies and pay member claims in the normal way.

Laya Healthcare will be officially launched on Monday May 14. Customers will be contacted “over the coming weeks” to inform them of the change, managing director Dónal Clancy said.
