Ryanair has launched five new routes from Shannon

The budget carrier said that it couldn’t run the new flights if the travel tax was still in play.

RYANAIR HAS UNVEILED plans to run five new routes to destinations around Europe from Shannon airport from this winter.

The new routes will see the budget carrier ferrying passengers from the western airport to Berlin, Fuerteventura, Krakow, Paris & Warsaw from November.

Ryanair said that it had been able to introduce the new routes as a direct result of the government’s decision to scrap the travel tax from April last.

The Berlin route will be serviced four times weekly, as will Krakow and Warsaw. Fuerteventura will get two flights per week while the Paris route will be run six times every week.

In addition to these new routes, extra flights are being added for Lanzarote, Liverpool, London Gatwick, London Stansted, and Wroclaw.

Ryanair has put 100,000 seats on sale across its European network until midnight tomorrow to celebrate the launch of the new routes.

Competitiveness

Commenting on the new routes in Shannon today, Ryanair’s David O’Brien said:

“The scrapping of the air travel tax from April last has restored Ireland’s competitiveness and attractiveness to overseas visitors. We are delighted to be able to grow our Shannon operation by more than 50 per cent this winter season, and deliver over one million more customers to Irish airports in 2014-2015.”

Shannon Airport chief executive Neil Pakey said: “The timing of this announcement couldn’t be better for the rising numbers coming from all over Ireland selecting Shannon as an easy gateway for both business as well as holiday flights.”
