SOMEHOW, WE DOUBT we’ll need to explain the concept of Snake and why it was so popular, but if you missed that part of mobile gaming history, there’s a way to experience the magic all over again.
Snake 97 allows you to play the first and second Snake game on your smartphone, but unlike other editions, it uses the original graphics from the Nokia 3210 and subsequent models.
The app itself has been around for a while now but has resurfaced thanks to Reddit and Product Hunt, and it’s available on iOS, Android and Windows Phone.
Which one you use will determine whether you have to pay for it or not – the Windows Phone version cost €0.99, Android’s version is free and iOS has both a free and a €0.99 version – but it’s a faithful recreation of the original games.
The only major difference is you’re using a touch screen instead of rubber buttons to move the snake around, and not having that feedback does take you out of it a little.
But it’s still a solid effort and you soon be reliving the memories. Although it’s likely you will start turning the air blue once you get back into the swing of things, just like the old days.
