Soundwave hits 750,000 downloads as it adds YouTube music update
The Irish-based music app now allows users to sync songs they listen to on YouTube onto their profiles.

IRISH MUSIC APP Soundwave has reached 750,000 downloads as it released its latest version with YouTube functionality.

The music discovery app – which allows users to sync music from their phones as well as from music streaming services like Spotify and Rdio – is now allowing users to track the songs they listen to on YouTube onto the app.

If a user listens to a song on YouTube on desktop or mobile, it will automatically sync with the app, but if you watch a regular video, it will ignore it. The app will also pick up on unsigned music, allowing users to get a more complete picture of their listening habits.

Soundwave CEO Brendan O’Driscoll said that YouTube was “the last frontier for music consumption” and that syncing music from it was one of the most requested features from its user base.

The move also helps it reach out to younger demographics, mainly those who don’t have a vast music collection on their phones, or the money to purchase streaming subscriptions. It also marks the app’s first steps into video capturing, which will broaden its reach.

The app has tracked over 40 million songs and has been downloaded in 195 countries since it was officially launched in June. The app is available on both iOS and Android.
