THE IRISH POST – a newspaper which served the Irish community in England for the past 40 years – has gone into liquidation. The Post was bought by Thomas Crosbie Holdings eight years ago but the group said in a statement that it could no longer sustain “persistent trading losses”.
Twelve people at the paper may lose their jobs unless another buyer for the Post can be found. According to the Irish Times today, the circulation had dropped in the past eight years from 31,400 to 17,100 copies.
Today, the Irish Post’s website was still showing this week’s stories, but there was no mention that it would possibly be the last-ever edition of the paper. Lead stories included Sharon Corr’s solo tour, the Rose of Tralee, the Ireland-France rugby match and the story of Leitrim teenager Meadhbh McGivern as she continues to wait for an organ transplant operation.
