EVERY WEEKDAY EVENING, TheJournal.ie brings you the five stories you need to know before you hit the road.

1. #SHOOTING: A man was shot outside a gym in Balbriggan this morning. The incident occurred just after 11am and the victim was rushed to Beaumont hospital by ambulance.

2. #BAD BANK: Property developer Harry Crosbie has issued legal proceedings against NAMA. He is seeking to block any action by Nama seeking to pursue debts allegedly owed by the developer to the State’s bad bank.

3. #SLIP OF THE TONGUE: The BAI has upheld a complaint made about remarks by fashion designer Paul Costelloe on RTÉ. During an interview, Costelloe remarked that young Irish men were in Britain “damaging young virgins… and more power to them”.

4. #INVESTIGATION: The Ombudsman has announced that he will investigate how public hospitals handle complaints. The investigation will look at how public hospitals across the State manage and investigate complaints from patients and their families.

5. #BOD: Economists from the ESRI have worked out that Ireland was 40% more likely to win if Brian O’Driscoll was on the field. Don’t worry, it was in their spare time.
