1. #LAID TO REST: The funeral has taken place in Co Louth of Garda Tony Golden, who was shot and killed on Sunday evening. “Tony quietly let his light shine in so many ways through his life in a very humble way,” Father Pádraig Keenan said.
2. #ROCKVILLE DRIVE: No agreement had been reached in talks between Dun Laoghaire-Rathdown County Council and local residents who are opposed to the construction of a temporary halting site. This would be used to house survivors of a fire that killed ten people in Carrickmines at the weekend.
3. #HOUSE ARREST: Oscar Pistorius is expected to walk out of prison next week and be placed under house arrest after serving a year for killing his girlfriend. However he could soon be back behind bars if a prosecutor’s appeal is successful and the paralympian is charged with murder.
4. #QUESTIONS AND ANSWERS: RTÉ has denied that an advisor to Micheal Noonan threatened that the Finance Minister and Brendan Howlin would not appear on the traditional post-Budget phone-in unless they got sight of the questions in advance.
5. #MIDDLE EAST: In a policy u-turn, US President Barack Obama has announced that troops will be staying in Afghanistan past 2016, BBC News report.
