Calvary the most successful Irish film this year, grossing €1.5m

The movie is also the fifth highest grossing film to go on general release in Ireland.

THE MOVIE CALVARY is the most successful Irish movie at the box office so far this year, grossing close to €1.5 million last year.

The movie also had the highest weekend figures of any Irish film released in 2014, and was also the fifth highest grossing film to go on general release in Ireland, coming behind The Lego Movie, The Wolf of Wall Street, 12 Years a Slave and The Amazing Spiderman 2.

Staring Brendan Gleeson, the movie has a whole host of famous actors in it such as Chris O’Dowd, Aiden Gillen, Dylan Moran and Domhnall Gleeson.

The movie tells the story of an Irish priest who receives a death threat while hearing confession.

It has received positive reviews from such The Guardian, The Independent and Empire.
