  • My home town – sad & shocking stuff really! He’s serious but stable apparently! Seemingly they didn’t know each other, he was a quiet young fella, not a troublesome kid at all by local accounts (I don’t know him personally)- word is he was stabbed for his phone! Some of the comments here are scandalous too by the way – “maybe he deserved it?!?!?” He’s a 16 year old kid in his school uniform, on his way home up the hill to do his homework you absolute fuc*ing idiot – how in the name of sweet devine jaysus do you think he might have deserved it??? Fool…

    • Just heard the same thing. Don’t know how true it is but apparently it was a junkie who stabbed him for his phone. Scary that its not safe to let our kids walk the streets in broad daylight. They are naming the attacker on fb so he’s obviously well known around the town. I hope the young lad is ok.

If it was for his phone it’s despicable disgraceful but until we know the full story we can’t speculate

    • Sorry Shane – are we all playing too many gory computer games or what?!? I was no angel as a young fella meself but… Are there parameters whereby a stabbing (through your clothes & skin and into your guts somewhere or other) may not be despicable???

      We’ve all gone mad!!!

    • Well I’m not gonna make judgement John as I don’t no the story and as I said if it was for a phone it’s despicable!

    • @John Phelan Well said. A school BOY was stabbed by a MAN on his way from SCHOOL what is wrong here is that a MAN stabbed a 16 yr old BOY.

If the lad got out of the school at 4.00pm from the Termonfeckin Road premises and started to walk back into town via uncer the Viadsduct bridge, past the Cottage Hospital, into Scarlet St then down into the Chord Rd then the time when he got stabbed would sound right. The poor youth would be exactly where he would have been found exactly had he just got out of school minutes previous.

How any uneducated idiot can say here that the 16 year old automatically just deserved it for some reason, is showing their own stupidity of the highest order.

  • My god it’s getting worse out there can’t even be safe walking home from school now. Hope the young fella will be ok.

  • Other side of the story??what difference that make?an adult stabbed a schoolboy walking home in broad daylight, why he done it is irrelevant, the worrying fact is that done it in the first place.

    • Shane Ellis – your exposing stupidity of the highest order.
Go bone up on the facts please above in some of the comments.

How any uneducated idiot can say here that the 16 year old automatically just deserved it for some mental reason before bothering to actually learn or know some real facts, is showing stupidity of the highest order – besides insensitivity to the family of the poor victim and to the actual boy.

Shane Ellis – you need to wake up and kop yourself on.

    • Your whole comment is making an assumption. The student could easily have walked from St. Mary’s, St. Oliver’s, or the Grammar School. And from each school numerous routes are possible. The report is of the basic kind, with little to no detail presented. It has not been revealed if the two knew each other, if it was a retaliation of some kind, or if it was in fact completely random. When we find out then we can all go on and pass judgement. Until then we’ll just have to mourn for the sorry state of a country where violence is becoming all too prolific.

    • It was Laurence’s street, which is a five minute walk from St. Mary’s, which lets out at 3.50 (How do I know that? I went there), and it’s also closer than St. Joseph’s. I live near St. Oliver’s, and it’s a fifteen minute walk into town, and the grammar school probably is a little far for the timing.

As for the circumstances you mentioned, do you know the attacker and the student personally? Because that seems to be more information than is currently available anywhere else.

I’m not condoning violence, or suggesting that the attack was justified, like it seems quite a few other people have done. I’m suggesting that instead of jumping to conclusions and writing a story from our imaginations we wait to see what actually happened. I’m suggesting we be democratic about it and pass judgment when it’s due and when were fully informed

    • Ehhh biggins St Marys is much closer to Laurence St than Josephs so there are other fellas schools in the area!!

    • @Wayne a young schoolboy (a child) was stabbed, nothing to do with being “democratic”. The details have been on the airwaves since this morning describing the incident as an “unprovoked attack” that is enough information for any right thinking person to condemn it . When are we ever “fully informed” about anything? What do you want, a CSI reconstruction- GET REAL and snap out of whatever strange judicial, over politically correct mindset you are locked into. Its wishy washy PC like you espouse that allows the criminal fraternity to act with impunity in this country.

  • Whilst not knowing the full story of this, ie whether there was history between the two, this type of crime in broad daylight is awful!!

  • I am sometimes amazed at the self righteous sickening attitude of some contributors to this forum who are so quick at times to condemn apportion blame and invoke the conspiracy theory on so many subjects, yet on a simple matter where a person uses a knife to do serious injury to a child they must know all the circumstances before they pass a judgement.
Unless it is somehow in an extreme case of self defence, it is never justified to plunge any sharp instrument into someone else body. I find it disgusting that one contributor could somehow imply that the child “maybe deserved it” or “wait for the other side of the story” or that there was some “underlying issue” what a despicable sickening attitude. In my opinion this is typical of the same sort of self justifying attitude displayed by those people that perpetrate these criminal acts.
I hope the lad has a speedy recovery both physically and mentally from his ordeal and I would also like to express my support to his friends and family during this stressful time.

  • That is absolutely horrific. I hope that man is locked up. I pray that he gets over whatever serious mental issues he has.
My thoughts go towards the boy and his family.

  • Hope this lad is on the way to recovery but can you imagine he waits till he gets home before someone notices his wound? Brave lad he was.

  • I hope he makes a full recovery. Regardless of why it happened , and we don’t know yet his parents must be frantic with worry.

  • Really folks i don’t think the school that he walked from is relevant.the facts are that a boy was stabbed and remains in hospital i might add,and still poorly…i moved from drogheda after being there for 12 years because i could see this coming and have a family to think of…Thank God, when it comes to a time when your children can’t walk home from school without harm or foul then we as a community of people must look into ourselves…i hope that people open their eyes and realise that this act was far more than just wrong.anybody who saw what happened , and i know there were hundreds of you!!!!! don’t be afraid, stand up and be COUNTED!!!

  • Wait for the other side of the story.

  • Obviously an underlying issue! Still no excuse BUT nobody no knows the story

  • This sheane Ellis Must Know something about it when he says he deserved it!!!!!

    • Ok – “deserved it” – lets say the SIXTEEN YEAR OLD SCHOOLBOY raped, beat up then tied up a member of the stabbers family before burning them to death inside their own house… Well then…. I’d go with the fact that he “deserved it” – being a 16 year old school kid though…. I’d say it pretty much rules my scenario above out! I’d say his Xbox, homework, acne worries & chasing the girl one of his mates is actually going out with renders him a bit busy for all that – please explain, somebody, how this kid deserves this….

      Reply
    • I will when I no the circumstances! I doubt he deserved it and its probably labelled dispicable! I will label it that when I no
