Man stabbed to death in Dublin as gardaí search for man with blood stained top

The body was discovered yesterday afternoon.

Updated 1.17pm

GARDAÍ ARE STILL searching for a man in his 20s who fled a flat in south inner city Dublin where a man in his 20s was murdered.

The body was discovered after gardaí searched a flat on the South Circular Road close to the junction with Bloomfield Avenue in Dublin 8.

It’s been determined following a post-mortem examination that the man had suffered stab wounds but he has not yet been formally identified.

Speaking at a press briefing in Dublin today, Superintendent Patrick McMenamin said that a family liaison officer has been appointed to the case.

Gardaí were alerted to the scene by members of the public when a second man was found on the street outside the flat with a number of injuries.

That man was taken to St James’ Hospital for treatment and he remains under the care of the hospital although his injuries are not thought to be life-threatening.

Gardaí say that the injured man is a Swiss national and that he has been questioned.

House to house inquiries are also been undertaken by gardaí in the area.

Investigations are focused on locating the man who fled the scene at about 3.20pm yesterday. Gardaí say that man was wearing a dark top that may have been stained with blood.

“There was a third person at the scene that we are anxious to locate,” McMenamin.

We’d urge that person to make contact with us, we believe that person has crucial information to this investigation that will assist us.

The man has been described as being 5’6″ in height and being of slim build with fair to reddish hair.

Gardaí say they also want to speak any member of the public who may have been in the Harrington Street/Camden Street areas between 2.30pm and 4pm yesterday.
