Former Progressive Democrat Mary Mitchell O'Connor has been nominated by Fine Gael as Sean Barrett's running-mate in Dun Laoighaire. O'Connor, who is a primary school principal, was first elected to Dun Laoighaire Rathdown County Council under the Progressive Democrat banner in 2004. After the dissolution of the party in 2007, she joined Fine Gael, successfully winning re-election in the local elections of 2009.
