Fianna Fáil deputy Peter Kelly is one of three candidates selected by the party to contest the election in Longford-Westmeath. Following a long career in local politics, the 56-year-old was first elected to Dáil Éireann in 2002 as a representative of the Longford-Roscommon constituency. He was returned for a second term as a deputy in 2007 when he gained over 14 per cent of first preference votes in Longford-Westmeath.
